I'm not expert, but somewhere I read that AI does give you more litter babies, not much maybe 2 at the most. I have a male and female that is our foundation breeding stock and last August 2007 we tried a vaginal insemination, long story why we did this, but it didn't take. My female is now in season again, we contacted the repro vet the day after for an appointment to setup AI again, they kept doing Progesterone Testing, this went on like every 3 to 4 days ($75 each test). Tuesday, Feb 19th, we decided to do the Trans-Cervical (no surgery) and again they did another Progesterone Test. Early the next day, Wednesday the 20th got a phone call to bring in both dogs, my females Progesterone Test was at 15.7, but again the repro vets decided that we should do a surgically insemination. Our female is fine and back to her old self again. So for 4 office visits and testing and surgery our bill came to: $1096.00 and we're not sure if she is pregnant. Do what is best for your baby and most of all for your pocketbook.

is there any reason why you would chose to do AI instead of a natural breeding?just as in doing invetro fertilization in humans there are no guarantees that it will work-its way more expensive-you have to have progesterone testing done on your female-$$$have to import and ship the sperm $$$ and have it implaned by a vet-$$$ in order to get puppies registered by the akc a vet has to fill out a report that he implanted her-unless you plan on doing the AI yourself-and then you really need to know what you are doing as its a delecate operation-there are actually a few methds of doing AI theres also a surgical implant method thats more successfull than doing a vaginal AI -$$$ -and needs to be done by a experienced repo vet $$$ -by doing a natural breeding all you have to pay for is the stud fee versus the other added expenses of doing an AI -with AI you have to pay a stud fee plus all the other expenses that go along with it-and sometimes its chancy-useually you will need to have sperm shipped and have it delivered overnight -if its late or not properly chilled it will be no good-the person shipping the sperm has to know how to collect it -how to store it and how to have it transported-theres a lot of red tape involved with the akc too as far as haveing the proper forms filled out-i can see useing AI if the stud is located in another state and not accessible or if he is dead and had had sperm stored -but much rather prefer useing a natural breeding ----- Original Message -----From: Pug LadySent: Thursday, February 21, 2008 12:08 AMSubject: Re: [P&P] Which would be better?Nope. Litter size has nothing to do with AI vs natural. It all depends on sperm viability and the bitch.
